What this means for your family

The facility's rehabilitation and therapy departments are highly regarded and often lead to successful discharges. However, you must be prepared to be a very active advocate; multiple families report dangerous delays in nursing response times and inconsistent care. We strongly recommend visiting frequently and ensuring you have a direct line to the case manager or unit head to address any immediate needs.

Winchester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (often referred to as Aberjona) receives highly polarized feedback, with many families praising the physical and occupational therapy teams while others report severe neglect and staffing shortages. While specific staff members like Kushie Rana and the therapy department are frequently commended for their dedication, multiple reviewers highlight dangerous delays in call-bell response times and inconsistent nursing care. Families should be aware that experiences appear to vary significantly depending on the unit and the specific staff on duty.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given the facility's strong reputation for physical and occupational therapy, how do you integrate those sessions into a resident's daily schedule to ensure they aren't missing out on social activities?
  • 2I noticed the facility has a 5-star staffing rating, but I am curious how you maintain that consistency during weekend and evening shifts to ensure timely assistance for residents?
  • 3Could you walk me through the current process for medication management and how you ensure accuracy and consistency for residents who require complex medical oversight?
  • 4What protocols are in place to ensure that call-bell response times remain prompt, especially during peak hours or shift changes?
  • 5How does your team handle communication with families when there is a change in a resident’s medical status or a concern regarding their daily care plan?
  • 6Since the memory care program is a specific focus area, what kind of specialized engagement activities are provided to keep those residents active and connected throughout the day?

Key Review Excerpts

The nursing staff and aides were very attentive to her needs. Nursing manager Kushie Rana is a gem. Kushie continued to call with updates and personally checked in on mom, sat with mom when needed and ordered special meals.

Long-term resident's family · 2025★★★★★

Call bell response times are well over the 7 minute standard- in fact an hour or more is typical. The meals are not nutritious or healthful and consist of chicken nuggets, French fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.

Family member · 2024☆☆☆☆

My father was admitted for rehab after hip fracture surgery and with comorbidities requiring medical care... From admission to discharge, the staff were kind, knowledgeable, helpful and compassionate.
