What this means for your family

This facility's rehabilitation and memory care units are frequently praised for their expertise and compassion. However, families must be prepared to provide consistent oversight, as multiple reports indicate that patients who cannot advocate for themselves may experience lapses in basic care and medication management.

The Villa at Marymount receives polarized feedback, with many families praising the rehabilitation therapy team and the facility's physical appearance. However, significant concerns persist regarding inconsistent nursing care, medication management errors, and poor responsiveness to call lights, particularly during evening and weekend shifts. Potential families should be aware that while some report excellent, attentive care, others describe a facility that requires constant family oversight to ensure basic needs are met.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given the importance of timely care, could you walk me through your current process for responding to call lights and how you ensure residents aren't waiting too long for assistance?
  • 2I understand medication management is a critical part of daily care; what specific protocols or double-check systems do you have in place to prevent delays or errors in administering medications?
  • 3With the facility's focus on rehabilitation, how do you balance the intensity of physical therapy sessions with the personal hygiene and daily living needs of residents?
  • 4I've read that your memory care team is highly regarded; how do you ensure that same level of compassionate, dedicated attention is consistent across all shifts and departments?
  • 5Since staffing levels can impact the quality of daily life, what steps is the leadership team taking to improve staff retention and ensure consistent, professional care for all 130 residents?
  • 6Could you describe the daily activity schedule and how you tailor these programs to keep residents engaged and socially connected throughout the week?

Key Review Excerpts

The physical and occupational therapy is great! I would definitely rate them 5-star for therapy. I'm rating it a 1-star because this is NOT a facility for anyone who doesn't have a reasonable portion of self-sufficiency or able to seriously advocate for themselves.

Rehab patient · 2024☆☆☆☆

They can’t change a colostomy bag correctly so my mom sat in her feces for who knows how long, this happened more then once. They emptied her catheter bag and left an unopened container of urine sitting on the floor.

Family member · 2024☆☆☆☆

I felt a sense of peace the moment I walked into The Village at Marymount Memory Care Unit. The staff and caregivers are caring, compassionate people and know a great deal about dementia.
