What this means for your family

This facility has a dedicated leadership team that is often willing to intervene when problems are brought to their attention, which is a significant strength. However, families should be aware of persistent reports regarding understaffing and should conduct frequent, unannounced visits to ensure their loved one's hygiene and nutritional needs are being met.

Shrewsbury Rehabilitation and Nursing at Southgate receives highly polarized feedback, with many families praising the compassionate, attentive nursing staff and the facility's clean, secure environment. However, significant concerns persist regarding chronic understaffing, which reviewers report leads to neglect in basic hygiene, delayed responses to call bells, and issues with meal quality and delivery. While leadership is often credited with being responsive to individual complaints, the inconsistency in daily care remains a primary point of contention for families.

Key Review Excerpts

I want to sincerely thank “Heather Demma”, the Executive Director at Shrewsbury Rehab Center, for her outstanding leadership and responsiveness. She took all my concerns seriously, listened with empathy, and took immediate steps to address every issue I raised.

Family member · 2025★★★★★

They are incredibly under staffed, to the point patients rooms are filthy, trash bins are overflowing... the kitchen staff has no idea how to prepare meals so food is cold, inedible and often not what was requested by the patients.

Family member · 2025★★☆☆☆

The treatment my father underwent at this facility was negligent at best, malicious at worst; after weeks of phone calls alerting me that he kept falling over on their watch, I set up a meeting.
