Key Review Excerpts

My dad is now in the ICU with severe dehydration, malnutrition, a UTI and a pneumonia....and is suffering from sepsis so bad that he had to have a blood transfusion....oh I forgot leg atrophy.....My dad was physically healthy and to see him this way because of pure neglect is really tough on my family.

Long-term resident's family · 2022☆☆☆☆

The administration here is disgraceful and the way they treat/talk to their staff is terrible I am not surprised if the patients even according to many reviews on here aren’t treated that well. They are under staff, this administration has no respect for them when they are the only reason this dump is still running.

General observer · 2025☆☆☆☆

My mother has been at Verrazano for a year. She has been well taken care of medically, with her daily needs and with friendship by the staff and nurses. I am a physician myself and I have been impressed by the care coordinater , nurses and Doctor who oversee the medical aspects of her care.

This facility has serious recurring problems with protecting residents from abuse and neglect, with families filing multiple complaints that triggered federal investigations. The most concerning issues involve abuse prevention and reporting, care planning failures, and fire safety violations that have persisted across multiple surveys from 2023 to 2025. While the facility reports correcting each deficiency, the pattern of repeated problems in critical safety areas, combined with eight complaint-driven investigations, suggests ongoing quality concerns that families should carefully evaluate before considering placement.
