What this means for your family

While the facility is visually appealing and has a strong administrative and therapy team, the recurring reports of nursing neglect and medication errors are significant red flags. If you choose this facility, ensure you have a family member present frequently to monitor care, and specifically request a care plan that addresses call-light response times and hygiene protocols.

The Laurels of Kettering presents a stark contrast in experiences, with many families praising the facility's cleanliness, friendly administrative staff, and effective rehabilitation services. However, a significant number of reviewers report critical failures in basic care, including slow response times to call lights, medication management errors, poor hygiene, and neglect of bedridden patients. Families should be aware that while the facility is often described as beautiful and welcoming, there are recurring, serious concerns regarding the consistency and quality of nursing care.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1I noticed that your team is very active in responding to online feedback; how do you use that family input to improve the daily care and communication experience for residents?
  • 2Given that physical and occupational therapy are highlighted as strengths here, how do you ensure that same level of dedicated attention carries over into daily hygiene routines and assistance with personal care?
  • 3What specific protocols are in place to ensure that call lights are answered promptly and that residents receive timely assistance when they need it most?
  • 4With medication management being a critical part of a resident's health, could you walk me through the safety checks and oversight you have in place to ensure prescriptions are administered correctly and on time?
  • 5I see that dining is an area you are working to improve; what steps are you taking to ensure that meals are served at the right temperature and meet the specific nutritional or dietary preferences of each resident?
  • 6How does your nursing and aide staff receive ongoing training to ensure they are providing the most compassionate and attentive support to residents throughout their shifts?

Key Review Excerpts

My nurse very limited English very hard to understand NO FOOD KITHCHEN CLOSED, MEDICATIONS WERE TO COME FROM PHARMACY BUT SAID IT COULD BE NEXT DAY, INSULIN FOR DIABETES NEEDED BADLY NONE WAS AVAILABLE

Rehab patient · 2025☆☆☆☆

Aside from nobody knowing what each other is doing, the rooms are filthy. Trash is never emptied. Linens are changed only twice weekly. The floors are disgusting. As far as food goes, it’s better left on the tray.

Family member · 2024☆☆☆☆

The staff truly care for their residents! Everyone is always welcoming and have a smile on their face when you walk in.

This facility has a concerning pattern of recurring deficiencies across multiple surveys, with families filing 23 complaints that triggered additional inspections. The most problematic areas include infection control, medication management, and basic care quality, with issues persisting across multiple years despite corrections. While all violations show correction dates, the repeated nature of problems in critical care areas like preventing infections and medication errors suggests ongoing systemic challenges that warrant careful consideration.
