What this means for your family

While Summerstone's therapy department is frequently praised for helping patients regain strength, the facility suffers from severe, recurring issues with understaffing and communication. If you are considering this facility, I strongly advise you to visit during a weekend or evening shift to observe staffing levels firsthand and to ask management specifically how they handle call-light response times and medication scheduling for residents with complex needs.

Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center is a modern, visually appealing facility that receives polarized feedback. While many families praise the physical environment and specific therapy staff, a significant number of reviewers report serious concerns regarding chronic understaffing, slow response times to call lights, and inconsistent communication from management. Families should be aware that experiences vary drastically depending on the specific nursing shift and individual staff members assigned to their loved one.

Key Review Excerpts

My father unfortunately is a resident of this nursing home. I am desperately looking for somewhere to move him. The quality of care (especially on weekends) is horrible.

Long-term resident's family · 2023☆☆☆☆

My 88 year-old father was placed at Summerstone Health and Rehab center in Kernersville following a near-death experience with acute renal failure and internal bleeding. The facility is clean and well-kept. Kudos to Teresa, in the Business Office, Kristi (front desk), and especially Keyon (transportation).

Long-term resident's family · 2025★★★☆☆

The facility is very nice but the meal plan is horrendous. Dinner consists of 1 slice of sandwich bread with a hotdog weenie only and 3 broccoli florets. What is that for a supper time meal?

Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center shows concerning patterns with families filing complaints that led to findings about unsafe conditions and improper resident discharges. The facility has persistent issues across all surveys with medication management, safety hazards, and building/fire safety systems. Most deficiencies are reportedly corrected, but the recurring problems with medication errors and safety suggest ongoing operational challenges families should investigate during visits.
