What this means for your family

While recent reviews highlight a clean facility and a friendly, effective rehab team, the history of serious neglect reports cannot be ignored. When touring, ask specifically about the nurse-to-patient ratio on weekends and request a clear explanation of their protocol for responding to patient call buttons and managing pressure wounds.

Highland Home receives polarized feedback, with many recent reviewers praising the facility for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and effective rehabilitation services. However, a significant number of families have reported serious concerns regarding neglect, slow response times to call buttons, poor hygiene, and communication failures during medical emergencies. Families considering this facility should look closely at the contrast between the highly positive recent experiences and the recurring reports of staffing shortages and inadequate patient care.

Key Review Excerpts

My 95 year old grandmother was in Rehab for 1 week in this facility and came home with a huge wound on her leg which now requires wound care from falling out of her wheelchair due to the staff putting her call button on her bed while she sat in the wheelchair a few feet from the bed.

Granddaughter of rehab patient · 2022☆☆☆☆

My dad has been in rehab here since May 2nd. After a long hospital stay, home is the only place we wanted to go, but he had to have rehab. The best choice we made was Highland Home. The facility is great, the rooms are great, and the staff, nurses, aids, therapists, front office staff, dietitians, and activity director are all wonderful.

Daughter of rehab patient · 2025★★★★★

My father was at Higland Home for 3 days. During those 3 days, staff would make him sit up in a wheel chair for hours alone in his room, even though he was unable to sit up in his bed. He would cry and tell them how unbearable the pain was and the staff told him, 'we will put you back in bed when we feel like it'.

Highland Home shows concerning patterns with recurring issues in resident assessment and care planning across all three surveys, indicating persistent challenges in evaluating residents' needs and developing proper care plans. The facility also had repeated problems with respiratory care and medication management, with some deficiencies reappearing in multiple inspections. While all violations were reportedly corrected, the pattern of recurring issues in core care areas suggests families should carefully evaluate the facility's consistency in maintaining care standards.
