What this means for your family

This facility's physical and occupational therapy departments are frequently praised as top-tier, making it a strong candidate for post-surgery recovery. However, the recurring reports of long call-light response times and medication delays are critical concerns. We strongly recommend that families plan to visit frequently to advocate for their loved one, especially on weekends when staffing appears to be thinner.

Altercare Post-Acute Rehab Center receives highly polarized reviews, with many families praising the physical and occupational therapy teams while others report severe lapses in basic nursing care. While some families highlight a clean environment and attentive staff, numerous reports of long call-light response times, medication errors, and poor communication suggest significant inconsistency in quality. Families considering this facility should be prepared to be highly involved in their loved one's daily care and advocacy.

Key Review Excerpts

I had to make numerous calls regarding unanswered call lights of 30-45 minutes for help to the restroom and back, pain meds given to late, staff giving attitude when asked for ice, food was cold by the time it made it to them.

Family member · 2021☆☆☆☆

The physical therapist was wonderful but he retired on April 29. We were heartbroken that our father had such inadequate care. Mis-diagnosed wounds and awful response time for changing dirty linens.

Family member · 2022☆☆☆☆

When he had a relapse, the nurses were quick to spot and had him back in the hospital within a few hours. He left in much better shape than he arrived in.

Total nursing hours are below minimum, though RN coverage is adequate. This may mean fewer aides for daily tasks like bathing and mobility.

4deficiencies
Well below state avg (10.1)
4 complaint-triggered

This facility shows a pattern of fire safety and building maintenance issues across three surveys, with recurring problems in smoke detection systems, emergency lighting, and exit doors. Most deficiencies involved building safety rather than direct patient care, though one issue with bowel and bladder care was cited in 2023. All violations have correction dates from the provider, but the repeated fire safety problems suggest ongoing maintenance challenges that families should discuss during visits.
