What this means for your family

While the facility is frequently praised for its therapy department and friendly activity staff, the recurring reports of hygiene neglect and slow response times are critical red flags. If you choose this facility, ensure you have a plan for frequent, unscheduled visits to monitor your loved one's personal care and hygiene needs.

Altercare of Louisville receives highly polarized feedback, with some residents praising the therapy department and friendly staff, while others report severe neglect. Multiple families have raised alarming concerns regarding hygiene, including residents left in soiled bedding for extended periods, and inconsistent responsiveness to basic care needs. Prospective families should be aware of these significant discrepancies in care quality and perform a thorough on-site visit.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given the facility's focus on rehabilitation, what specific protocols are in place to ensure consistent hygiene and timely assistance with personal care needs throughout the day and night?
  • 2I noticed the staffing rating is currently lower; could you explain how you manage call light response times and ensure residents receive prompt attention when they need help?
  • 3The physical and occupational therapy departments are highly regarded here; how do you integrate these therapy programs into the daily routines of long-term residents?
  • 4I see that administrative leadership is very active in responding to feedback; what is your process for families to communicate concerns directly to management if they feel nursing communication is lacking?
  • 5How does the activity team tailor their programming to keep residents engaged, and how do you ensure those with limited mobility are included in these daily events?
  • 6With the current focus on improving dining services, could you walk me through how you handle dietary preferences and ensure that meal quality remains consistent for all residents?

Key Review Excerpts

The therapy department was outstanding and Matt was great working with my husband. Chelsea the administrator checked on him every day and made sure he was shaved and well taken care of.

Rehab patient's spouse · 2026★★★★★

I had a colostomy bag after my surgery and no one knew how to care for me. The one girl said she knew how and she left the bag open and you guessed poop everywhere and they would let me lay there for up to 2 hours without answering my call light.

Rehab patient · 2024☆☆☆☆

They heavily medicated her saying she had insomnia but really she wanted out of bed to pee. She was covered in urine from her shoulders to knees every time I came in.
