Specifically, staff were found to be distracted (watching a tablet) during an incident involving two residents, which constitutes an immediate risk to resident safety. Furthermore, the facility failed to ensure adequate care and supervision coverage throughout the required night shift hours.
Employees providing night supervision from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shall be available to assist in the care and supervision of clients in the event of an emergency. This requirement was not met because staff was observed watching on a tablet during the incident between R1 & R2, posing an immediate risk.
The licensee did not ensure that staff was providing care and supervision from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. to residents in care. This was evidenced by the incident where R1 and R2 were involved in intimacy without staff being alerted or present.
