What this means for your family

Altenheim offers a beautiful environment and highly effective rehabilitation therapy, making it a strong candidate for short-term recovery. However, you must be vigilant regarding staffing levels; families should specifically ask about weekend and evening staffing ratios and request a clear plan for how call lights are monitored during off-hours.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given that some families have noted challenges with response times for call lights, what specific protocols do you have in place to ensure residents receive timely assistance, especially during weekends and evening shifts?
  • 2I noticed the facility has a beautiful campus; how do you balance maintaining these grounds with ensuring that the nursing staff has enough time to focus on the personal hygiene and daily care needs of each resident?
  • 3Could you walk me through your communication process for keeping families updated on their loved one's health status, and who would be our primary point of contact if we have questions regarding care plans?
  • 4With the rehabilitation therapy programs being a noted strength here, how do you integrate those therapeutic activities into the daily routine for residents who are not currently in active recovery?
  • 5What is your current approach to staffing during peak hours versus off-hours to ensure that the quality of care remains consistent for all 128 residents?
  • 6In the event of a medical emergency after hours, what is the immediate chain of command and how quickly can we expect to be notified as a family?

Key Review Excerpts

The Memory Care facility is beautiful, clean, and always has great activities to keep the residence active. The staff is very friendly and have taken wonderful care of my grandmother.

Memory care family member · 2019★★★★★

My Dad was left in his own urine and stool for hours multiple times. One time it was midback to his feet dried urine. Layers of blankets staturated. Expect at least 30min for someone to answer call lights everytime.

Long-term resident's family · 2018☆☆☆☆

The rehabilitation staff were wonderful and I felt they really cared about my recovery and progress. The aids were very nurturing and gentle when providing care to me.
