What this means for your family

While the physical facility and therapy programs are highly regarded, the recurring reports of slow response times and medication errors are significant red flags. If you choose this facility, ensure you have a family member present frequently to advocate for your loved one's needs and monitor their medical care closely.

Advanced Health Care of Albuquerque is a polarizing facility that receives high praise for its hotel-like environment, private rooms, and effective physical therapy programs. However, multiple families have reported critical failures in nursing oversight, including medication errors, slow response times to call lights, and instances of neglect that led to serious medical complications. While many patients have successful rehab stays, the facility's reputation is marred by inconsistent care quality and concerns regarding staff responsiveness.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given the focus on physical and occupational therapy here, how do you coordinate those sessions with a resident's daily care schedule to ensure they aren't missing meals or hygiene assistance?
  • 2I noticed some concerns regarding response times for call lights; could you walk me through your current process for monitoring and escalating those requests to ensure residents are attended to promptly?
  • 3With your current staffing levels, what specific protocols are in place to ensure consistent medication management and to prevent delays or errors in administration?
  • 4Since you have a smaller capacity of 47 residents, how does this size allow your team to provide more personalized attention to hygiene and toileting needs compared to larger facilities?
  • 5I appreciate that you engage with feedback online; how do you use that family input to improve your internal communication processes and medical oversight for residents with complex health needs?
  • 6What kind of social or recreational activities do you offer to help residents feel connected and active within the facility beyond their therapy sessions?

Key Review Excerpts

The nurses and CNA's are amazing. All the staff work well with one another. All the rooms are private and beautiful decor. Have refrigerator and microwave.

Rehab patient · 2021★★★★★

IGNORED multiple requests of looking into mental status (versus focus of therapy/walking) and MISSED signs of infection which almost killed my dad. He ended up hospitalized (almost lost him) for 2 wks when they finally took him to ER for delirium from UTI infection turned sepsis.

Long-term resident's family · 2024☆☆☆☆

The staff is terribly mismanaged, there was no doctor oversight for medical issues concerning my mother, wrong dosages of serious medications, skipped medications, lab tests never completed.
