What this means for your family

This facility is highly recommended for families seeking specialized Huntington's disease care, with a strong emphasis on compassionate, family-like staff support. However, because there are historical reports of neglect and communication issues, we strongly advise families to conduct unannounced visits and ask specifically about current staffing ratios and the process for reporting concerns to management.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given your facility's specialized expertise in Huntington's disease, how do you tailor your care plans and daily activity programs to support residents with such specific neurological needs?
  • 2With a smaller capacity of 43 residents, how does your leadership team ensure that consistent, high-quality personal hygiene and daily care needs are met for everyone?
  • 3I noticed your staffing rating is lower than your overall rating; could you walk me through your current staffing model and how you ensure residents receive timely attention throughout the day and night?
  • 4How do you keep families informed and involved in their loved one's care, and what is your process for maintaining transparency regarding any changes in a resident's health or status?
  • 5Could you share how your team balances the high volume of resident activities mentioned by families with the need to provide individualized, hands-on support?
  • 6In the event of a medical emergency, what is your specific protocol for coordinating with local hospitals and ensuring that family members are notified immediately?

Key Review Excerpts

After a long and exhaustive search across the country for the absolute best Huntington’s care, my husband moved into Summerfield. I spent a month in the area to help create a smooth transition for each of us. In that time, I spent the majority of my days at Summerfield and I was blown away at the compassion and care each member of their staff exudes for every resident.

Huntington's care family member · 2024★★★★★

My daughter Ginney has been at Summerfield for 5 years, She has always received the very best care by the entire staff. The staff is the most loving and caring that I have ever observed anywhere.

Long-term resident's family · 2020★★★★★

Aperion Summerfield is an absolutely amazing place. I have had a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law who both had Huntington’s disease and both became residents there during the final stages of the disease. The staff there is amazing. Summerfield is cleaner than any other nursing home/assisted living facility I have ever visited.
