What this means for your family

This facility is highly regarded for its cleanliness and active social calendar, which can be great for long-term morale. However, given the recurring reports of slow call light response and concerns regarding medical oversight, we strongly advise families to visit during off-hours and specifically ask about the facility's protocol for monitoring patient safety and wound care.

Google Reviews

Altercare Newark South presents a stark contrast between highly satisfied families who praise the facility's cleanliness and active environment, and those who report serious lapses in patient safety and responsiveness. While many reviewers highlight a welcoming atmosphere and dedicated therapy teams, multiple critical reports describe significant delays in call light response, poor wound care management, and dismissive staff behavior. Families should conduct a thorough, in-person assessment to determine if the facility's current staffing levels align with their loved one's specific care needs.

Key Review Excerpts

Waited for over an hour after call button was pressed to go to the bathroom. Night staff is especially rude! They treat you like a huge inconvenience when you ask for anything, including your past due medication.

Rehab patient · 2024☆☆☆☆

The so called wound specialist, who is also director of nursing, had no idea of what to do with my dad’s wound vac. I had to tell them it wasn’t working and he was bleeding through the bandage.

Long-term resident's family · 2026☆☆☆☆

This was my 91-year-old mother's 2nd stay at Altercare South, and we are grateful for the dedicated care, respect, and attention the staff demonstrated on a daily basis toward her.
