What this means for your family

While Pine Rest has some highly regarded individual therapists and effective outpatient programs, the inpatient units have received a high volume of concerning reports regarding patient trauma, poor communication, and aggressive medication practices. If considering inpatient care, we strongly advise families to tour the specific unit, ask detailed questions about their policy on patient rights and family communication, and seek multiple opinions before committing to a stay.

Pine Rest Westwood is a large mental health facility with highly polarized reviews. While some patients and families praise individual therapists and specific outpatient programs for providing life-saving care, a significant number of reviewers report traumatic experiences, particularly in inpatient units, citing poor communication, dismissive staff, and inadequate medical oversight. Families should be aware that experiences vary drastically depending on the specific unit, provider, and whether the care is inpatient or outpatient.

Key Review Excerpts

The staff is attentive and super patient with those who are more prone to negative outbursts. They had enough staff to provide 1 on 1 care for many of the other patients and still look after those who didn't need it.

Inpatient patient · 2019☆☆☆☆

I was recently here inpatient for my anxiety, they did not treat my anxiety. They made it worse and traumatized me. My mental health is worse than it was before i went.

Inpatient patient · 2025☆☆☆☆

They got me off two extra meds I didn't need, diagnosed me correctly, gave me a wonderful therapist, and it's been over two years. My life is finally where I can be proud of myself.

Long-term patient · 2023☆☆☆☆
