What this means for your family

While Gulf Coast Village offers a beautiful environment and strong independent living amenities, the reports of neglect in the memory care and rehab units are deeply concerning. If you are considering this facility, we strongly recommend conducting an unannounced visit during a weekend or evening to observe staffing levels and response times firsthand.

Gulf Coast Village receives highly polarized feedback, with many residents and families praising the clean, well-maintained facilities and friendly staff in independent living. However, significant concerns exist regarding the quality of care in the rehab and memory care units, specifically regarding understaffing, poor responsiveness to pain, and administrative communication issues. Families should be aware that experiences vary drastically depending on the level of care required.

Key Review Excerpts

The first 18 months or so of Dad being in assisted living at PalmView were NOT pleasant. Following a change in administration, we began to experience a 180 change in care and communication.

Assisted living family member · 2024☆☆☆☆

No empathy from most of the staff, low staff ratio to patients This is the memory care unit 1433 Santa Barbara Blvd building. Quite a few patients had black and blue eyes, and even broken arms from falling.

Memory care family member · 2025☆☆☆☆

Some major improvements are needed to their furnishings, the beds being the biggest issue- extremely hard thin mattress that isn't conducive to healing an injury.
