What this means for your family

Willow Knoll appears to be a well-regarded choice for independent living, but families should exercise extreme caution regarding the skilled nursing and rehabilitation units. If you choose this facility, ensure you have a clear, written plan for how the staff will communicate medical updates to you, as multiple families reported being left in the dark during critical health events.

Google Reviews

Willow Knoll offers a bifurcated experience where independent living residents generally report high satisfaction with the facility's cleanliness, maintenance, and the responsiveness of staff like Alexa. However, the skilled nursing and rehabilitation units face significant criticism regarding neglectful care, poor communication during medical emergencies, and inconsistent staffing levels. Families considering this facility should be aware of the stark contrast between the positive independent living environment and the reported challenges in the clinical care areas.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1Given the quiet and peaceful campus setting, what specific social or recreational activities are scheduled to keep residents engaged throughout the week?
  • 2I noticed your staffing rating is lower than your health inspection rating; could you walk me through your current staffing model and how you ensure consistent bedside attention for residents?
  • 3We understand that clear communication is vital; what is your standard protocol for updating families on a resident's medical status or any changes in their care plan?
  • 4How do you handle urgent medical situations or after-hours emergencies to ensure that families are notified promptly and accurately?
  • 5I appreciate that your team is active in responding to feedback online; what internal systems do you have in place to address concerns regarding medication management or personal property security?
  • 6Since you have a smaller capacity of 58 residents, how does this size allow your team to provide more personalized or attentive care compared to larger facilities?

Key Review Excerpts

I came into this facility with a broken hip and all the people that are working there treated me like a family member. Alexa who is in front office treated me like I was her family member. Food was excellent!!

Rehab patient · 2024★★★★★

My dad was a resident here and has had two different times where he has needed to be taken to the hospital and one night I noticed I hadn’t heard from him that day so I went down to see him and he was completely out of it... Nobody called me and told me because he is in his right mind they don’t call the family.

Long-term resident's family · 2024☆☆☆☆

My father's independent apartment is great. My father was placed at the rehabilitation part of the nursing home after a stay in the hospital. If you have a disagreement with the some of people who work here they will ignore you.

1 complaint-triggered

This facility has a concerning pattern of persistent fire safety and building maintenance issues across all three surveys, with the same deficiencies recurring despite reported corrections—including problems with fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and smoke barriers. One family filed a complaint about environmental cleanliness that was substantiated in the most recent survey. While medication management and care planning issues from 2021 appear resolved, the ongoing safety violations raise questions about the facility's maintenance oversight and commitment to corrections.
