What this means for your family

While the facility offers a strong activities program, the recurring reports of medical neglect, hygiene issues, and medication errors are deeply concerning. We strongly advise families to conduct an unannounced visit and specifically inspect the condition of residents' skin and the cleanliness of the rooms before making a decision.

Valley Vista for Nursing and Rehabilitation, also referred to in reviews as Newton Health Care Center, receives highly polarized feedback. While some families praise the activities program and specific staff members for their kindness, numerous others report critical failures in basic care, including medication mismanagement, poor hygiene, and neglect of medical conditions like bedsores and infections. Key Review Excerpts

I had to remind them multiple times during the 2 times I was there to give my grandma her medicine, change her, and assist her like they’re supposed to. I also witnessed staff not washing their hands and not wearing gloves at appropriate times.

Long-term resident's family · 2024☆☆☆☆

Food is nasty and cold, the kitchen doesn't pay attention to the allergies list of foods ,or drinks, medicine is never on time, some staff are helpful where most isn't... Rooms smells like sewer gas.

Rehab patient · 2024☆☆☆☆

They don't treat bedsores to the point where it looks like 3rd degree burns. Not even mentioning they have bed sores until we found out from a nurse at the hospital. Also had open wounds that was not told about until they were infected.

22 complaint-triggered

Valley Vista has significant ongoing issues with families filing 18 complaint-triggered deficiencies across multiple areas. The most recurring problems involve pressure ulcer care, care planning and assessments, and fire safety systems. While all deficiencies show correction dates, the persistence of similar issues across surveys—particularly wound care appearing in complaints from 2023-2024—suggests systemic quality concerns that warrant careful evaluation during your visit.
