What this means for your family
The Laurels of Pender has a strong reputation for short-term rehab therapy, but families should be extremely cautious regarding long-term care. We strongly recommend visiting unannounced during off-hours to observe staffing levels and response times, as multiple families have reported significant neglect and communication issues.

Key Review Excerpts
“My mom was there for almost a month. She is now in the hospital for lack of care. She is severely dehydrated and they waited until we finally demanded blood and urine tests to do anything.”
“My mom’s stay has been short so far, but it is intended to be long term. Staff has been far more attentive than a prior rehab mom was in. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is the physical campus of the Laurels is in great need of updating and modernizing.”
“I think this is a nice facility. I don't think it should be considered a rehabilitation center or a skilled nursing facility. This is an assisted living facility. They don't push the residence to participate in the rehabilitation process.”
