What this means for your family

Gurwin's rehabilitation department is highly regarded and often delivers excellent physical therapy outcomes. However, families should be extremely cautious regarding nursing and aide staffing levels; we strongly recommend visiting during off-hours or weekends to observe the actual level of attention provided to residents, as many reviewers report significant gaps in care during these times.

Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a polarizing facility where experiences often depend on the specific unit and staffing levels. While many families praise the high-quality physical and occupational therapy teams and the clean, well-maintained environment, others report serious concerns regarding chronic understaffing, neglectful nursing care, and poor communication during medical emergencies. Prospective families should be aware that while some residents receive compassionate, attentive care, there is a recurring pattern of reports regarding slow response times and inadequate oversight of basic needs.

Key Review Excerpts

The nursing staff and nursing assistants were caring & responsive to the needs of their patients. Likewise the physical & occupational therapists worked very hard to assist their patients achieve the best possible results.

Rehab patient · 2026★★★★★

The memory care unit is terrible. They ate not able to properly care for your loved one. They have patients sitting by the dining room table for hours…not letting them leave…no activities for most of the patients.

Memory care family member · 2024☆☆☆☆

My dad stayed at Gurwin for two weeks for rehab following a stay at the hospital. At first he made very good progress with his PT, but after about a week, his health began to go downhill. Despite my mom/other family daily visits, the nurse continued to brush off my mom.

This facility has ongoing safety concerns, with families filing complaints that led to violations in accident prevention and care planning. The most recurring issues involve accident hazards and supervision, care planning delays, and building safety problems including fire exits and smoke barriers. While most deficiencies show correction dates, some building safety issues from 2019 remain uncorrected, and recent complaint-driven violations suggest persistent problems with resident safety oversight.
