What this means for your family

While Etowah Landing is frequently praised for its effective physical therapy and kind staff, the recent increase in reports regarding neglect and poor hygiene is a major red flag. If you are considering this facility, we strongly recommend conducting an unannounced visit to check the cleanliness of the rooms and asking specifically about the current staffing ratios on the ventilator and long-term care units.

Etowah Landing receives highly polarized feedback, with many families praising the compassionate nursing staff and effective rehabilitation services for short-term recovery. However, there are recurring, serious allegations regarding neglect, poor hygiene, and slow response times, particularly concerning residents with complex medical needs or those on ventilators. Families should carefully weigh the positive reports of staff kindness against the critical concerns regarding facility cleanliness and staffing levels.

Key Review Excerpts

My husband is a resident here on the vent unit and we couldn’t be more pleased with the care and treatment he receives from the staff and administration. They treat you like family and make sure all your needs are met.

Long-term resident's family · 2024☆☆☆☆

My father was a non-verbal quadriplegic at Etowah Landing for less than a month, and the neglect was unbelievable. He developed a massive bedsore that sent him into septic shock.

Memory care family member · 2025☆☆☆☆

The physical therapy staff has been so nice and wonderful to work with and are very helpful. The nurses and cnas are very kind and helpful. I would recommend this facility to anyone who needs therapy.

Etowah Landing shows significant safety concerns with recurring fire safety and medication management issues across three surveys, though all deficiencies have correction dates. A family complaint triggered one inspection regarding resident rights and documentation. Fire safety problems appear most frequently, including issues with sprinkler systems, smoke barriers, and emergency exits that persist across multiple years, alongside repeated medication errors and care planning deficiencies.
