What this means for your family

While Bethea offers a modern, clean environment and effective rehabilitation services, the recurring reports of understaffing and neglect are concerning. When touring, we strongly recommend asking for specific nurse-to-patient ratios during night shifts and weekends, and observing how quickly staff respond to call lights.

Bethea Baptist Healthcare Center receives highly polarized feedback, with many reviewers praising the modern, clean facilities and attentive nursing staff, while others report serious concerns regarding neglect and understaffing. Families often highlight the facility's aesthetic appeal and quality of rehab services, but critical reports of poor communication, inadequate nutrition, and inconsistent care levels persist. Prospective families should be aware of these conflicting experiences and conduct thorough, in-person visits.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1I noticed the facility has a beautiful campus; what kind of daily social or recreational activities are available to help residents stay engaged and connected with one another?
  • 2How does your team ensure consistent communication with families, especially if we have questions about our loved one's care or need to reach someone urgently?
  • 3With the current focus on nutrition and dining experiences, could you walk me through how you accommodate individual dietary needs and ensure residents are enjoying their meals?
  • 4Given the importance of skin integrity and hygiene, what is your facility's specific protocol for monitoring and preventing pressure sores for residents with limited mobility?
  • 5I see that maintaining high staffing levels is a priority for quality care; how do you manage shift coverage to ensure that every resident receives timely attention throughout the day and night?
  • 6In the event of a sudden change in health status, what is the process for escalating medical care and keeping our family informed of any medication or treatment adjustments?

Key Review Excerpts

When I came to Bethea, I was in a wheelchair. In the month that I have been here, I went from a wheelchair to a walker and now I use a cane. The next goal is to be able to independently walk without support.

Rehab patient · 2021★★★★★

The staff was wonderful. Housekeeping does a great job. I couldn't give a higher star because the food was cold most of the time. And for example the French fries taste like they were a day old.

Resident family member · 2023★★★☆☆

There's a handful of things that I could complain about, but I'm only going to say this .. it's a Very high-end facility.. with very low end care.. The nurses catch a bad rap because they don't have enough help.. almost every complaint that I have boils down to not enough help.
