What this means for your family

Fellowship Village is an exceptional choice for independent living, offering a vibrant social life and high-quality amenities. However, if you are considering the skilled nursing or rehab units, be prepared to be highly involved in your loved one's daily care. We recommend asking management specifically about their current nurse-to-patient ratios and how they ensure call bells are answered promptly during off-hours.

Fellowship Village is a well-regarded Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that receives high praise for its independent living environment, beautiful campus, and social atmosphere. However, the skilled nursing and rehab sections face significant criticism regarding inconsistent staffing levels, slow response times to call bells, and occasional lapses in basic patient care. Families considering this facility should weigh the excellent independent living amenities against the reported challenges in the higher-acuity care areas.

Key Review Excerpts

My Mom lived at FV for almost 8 years. She started on the Independent side, then Assisted Living and finally for the last 2 years in Skilled Nursing. I think it’s fair to say we saw ALOT of the different aspects of the Community. I just can’t think of anything more they could have possibly done for her or for our family.

Long-term resident's family · 2024★★★★★

I’m grateful to recently have spent 20 days, the toughest physical chapter of my life, at Fellowship Village sub-acute rehab in Basking Ridge and could not recommend it more. I was brought in on a stretcher following a nasty fall, walked out 20 days later.

Rehab patient · 2024★★★★★

My father was left unkempt alone in his room. Dirty laundry piling up or left to sit in the washer. Each time I visited he looked worse, more disheveled and the odor in the room became worse. I could not find anyone in charge to speak with about these issues.

Clean record — no deficiencies

This facility shows a concerning pattern of recurring fire safety and building maintenance issues across all three surveys, with deficiencies in smoke detection systems, fire alarms, and sprinkler maintenance appearing multiple times between 2021-2024. While the facility has corrected each identified problem, the repeated nature of fire safety violations suggests ongoing challenges with building infrastructure oversight. Families should inquire about current fire safety protocols and maintenance procedures during visits.
