What this means for your family

The Cottages of Lake St. Louis is an excellent choice for those seeking a home-like environment and high-quality rehabilitation services. However, because multiple families have reported difficulty with administrative communication and billing, we recommend getting all financial policies in writing before admission and maintaining a direct line of contact with the facility director.

Key Review Excerpts

The setting is very much like a home environment where the 10 rooms per cottage surrounding a kitchen and common area with a fireplace and large screen TV. The staff cooks home cooked meals and then sits down and eats with the residents.

Long-term resident's family · 2017★★★★★

The Cottages don't compare to any facility in the area. They are 100% the best. I have seen many physical rehab facilities and there's no contest. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they keep the family in the loop, the food is great, physical therapy is top notch and the rooms are private.

Rehab patient's family · 2025★★★★

Because of the concept, he had the same staff most of the time. The 8-10 residents that lived in his cottage were a constant (mostly), as well. From the moment he arrived, the entire staff treated him with genuine kindness, dignity and respect.

Families have filed complaints leading to deficiencies in pressure ulcer care, food safety, and resident rights. The facility shows recurring issues with fire safety systems (smoke doors found deficient three times across surveys) and has persistent problems with safety systems and care quality. While all deficiencies have been corrected according to the provider, the pattern of complaints and repeated safety violations suggests ongoing operational challenges families should consider.
