What this means for your family

While many families report excellent rehab outcomes and a caring environment, there is a recurring pattern of serious neglect and understaffing reported by others. We strongly recommend that you visit during off-hours or weekends to observe staffing levels yourself and ask specifically about their protocols for preventing and treating bedsores.

Cardinal Healthcare and Rehabilitation receives highly polarized feedback, with many families praising the compassionate, friendly staff and clean environment, while others report serious concerns regarding neglect and understaffing. While some families describe a 'family-like' atmosphere and successful rehab outcomes, multiple reviewers have documented incidents of poor medical oversight, including unaddressed bedsores and delayed response times. Families considering this facility should be aware of these significant inconsistencies in care quality.

Questions for Your Tour

  • 1I noticed your team is very active in responding to feedback online; how do you use that family input to improve daily operations and communication?
  • 2Given that staffing levels can fluctuate, what specific protocols do you have in place to ensure residents receive timely assistance when they press their call buttons?
  • 3With your focus on post-surgery rehabilitation, how do you ensure consistent medical oversight and skin integrity monitoring for residents who are less mobile?
  • 4I see that medication management is a priority; could you walk me through your process for ensuring accuracy and preventing errors for residents with complex health needs?
  • 5What steps are you taking to improve the variety and quality of the dining experience to ensure residents are getting both nutritious and enjoyable meals?
  • 6Since your facility has a smaller, intimate capacity of 63 residents, what kind of daily social activities or engagement programs are available to keep everyone connected and active?

Key Review Excerpts

The nurse looked me dead in the face and told me they are severely understaffed, and he wouldn’t be checked on or rolled every two hours like they are required to do.

Memory care family member · 2023☆☆☆☆

My mom was a patient for about four weeks and instead of getting better she just got worse. She was finally moved to the hospital where they informed her she had a level 3 bedsore which was overlooked and not taken care of while at cardinal.

Long-term resident's family · 2024☆☆☆☆

The worst part was the food! I was absolutely nauseated. I sent full trays of food back. I had to resort to ordering door dash and having a Walmart delivery.
