What this means for your family

This facility has a strong reputation for rehabilitation and friendly staff, making it a potential option for short-term recovery. However, families considering long-term or memory care should be vigilant; multiple reviewers have raised serious concerns about fall prevention and communication during medical issues. We recommend asking management specifically about their fall-reduction protocols and how they ensure consistent communication with families.

Altercare Newark North receives a high volume of positive reviews praising the compassionate nursing staff and the facility's welcoming environment. However, several families have raised serious concerns regarding patient safety, specifically citing issues with fall prevention, the development of pressure sores, and poor communication during medical emergencies. While many find the facility clean and professional, the recurring reports of neglect in the memory care unit suggest a significant inconsistency in the quality of care provided.

Key Review Excerpts

The Social Service Director, aides & nurses are wonderful & caring! Food service & laundry are good & some of the housekeeping staff do a great job while others are mediocre. The issue is that there isn’t enough staff to not be overworked.

Long-term resident's family · 2023★★★★

My Dad was only there for a 5 day respite visit. I have taken care of him for years and he has never had a bedsore. When I got back on the 4th day of the respite I was told he had developed a bedsore. He was unshaven with food in his whiskers and looked unkept.

Respite care family member · 2022☆☆☆☆

I did rehab at this facility & I was 100% impressed. I received physical fitness & occupational therapy separately daily sometimes twice & they really worked me. The aids were fantastic.
